My favourite thing about Spring

1 Sep

The scent of freesias. They grow wild under trees in my parents’ neighbourhood. I love to pick them from my garden and bring them inside so my whole house smells like my childhood.

They remind me of my grandmother. After she died two years ago my Mum and I dug up her bulbs and I now have them growing in my garden in a couple of pots. There are lots of flower heads just ready to burst forth sometime soon and the I, like you, will pick them and bring them inside so my house smells divine. Enjoy Spring in all its glory!

Aww, Barbara – that’s lovely 🙂 Memories triggered by scents can be so vivid – I hope you enjoy remembering her this season.

Love them! We had an ice cream container full of bulbs given to us a few years ago and I planted them as a border. They were beautiful the first year, then birds scratched them out and oxalis took over 😦 There’s still a few around the place, and I’ve planted more. We’ve been pinching little bunches of them from a house that is empty at the moment…they’re growing through the front fence, so I think it’s ok 😉

They grow in my front yard.

I love freesias. They were naturalised in the garden of the house I grew up in – white ones and yellow ones. I have a pot of freesias but there is no sign of flowers yet, just green leaves. I can smell yours from the picture!
